Dr Seppo Junnila is a Professor of Real Estate Business at the real estate business unit at the department of surveying, Aalto university school of science and technology, Finland. He holds two docent positions one in Real Estate Life Cycle Management at Helsinki University of Technology and another in Life Cycle Economy of Built Environment at Tampere University of Technology. He also has a Doctor of Science, Licentiate of Science and Master of Science degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology. In addition, he has a 1-year diploma in Environmental Management from the Helsinki School of Economics, Finland. Dr. Junnila has also worked several times as a visiting scholar in the University of California at Berkeley and Stanford University.
Before joining the academy, Dr. Junnila worked in numerous positions in consulting industry, for example, as a Head of Business Development and a Department Manager. He has also worked as a Business Director at Finnish Innovation Fund (Sitra).
Dr Junnila's research focuses on life-cycle technologies and management, sustainable buildings, industrial ecology and lean management in real estate and services industries. He has initialized and managed several major research projects with more than thirty industrial partners. Currently he is an instructor of a group of Ph.D. student in these areas.
He is a recipient of the Young Scientist Center of Excellence award from Helsinki University of Technology. He has also received the Best Dissertation of the Year grant from the Association of Finnish Civil Engineers and the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation Fellowship, the Association of Finnish Civil Engineers Fellowship, the Research Foundation of Helsinki University of Technology Fellowship, and the Real Estate Education and Training Institute Fellowship.
